The Science of Meditation at the Workplace

The Science of Meditation at the Workplace

The epidemic of stress is a real issue in the modern day. Jobs today are becoming increasingly demanding of our mental and physical capacities due to businesses evolving into more complex and global operations. Many of us are constantly caught in a struggle to meet project deadlines, replying to important emails, making presentations and sometimes dealing with difficult co-workers.

Stress may be a regular part of our lives at work, and it may also often seep into our personal relationships and make things seem difficult to handle. Stress is directly and indirectly linked to most illnesses and mental health problems, such as anxiety, insomnia and phobias.

Therefore, it’s important to find a way to manage stress and stay calm through the daily storm.

Meditation is one of the simplest ways to counter and manage stress on a daily basis. Not only can it help us on personal levels, but it can also greatly improve the workplace.

Here are a few ways meditation improves performance at the workplace:

Improved Decision Making

Before making a big decision, we are often told to sleep on it. The logic behind that is to be able to achieve greater mental clarity so we can weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.

Meditation has a similar effect on our mind! If you need to make a tough call during the day, taking 20 to 25 minutes to meditate can result in greater mental clarity and an ability to make better choices.

Emotional Intelligence

Stress can often cause our judgment to be clouded and cause us to misinterpret the verbal and body language cues of those around us. Mediating daily can help us manage our emotions and be more aware of how people around us are interacting, behaving and feeling. It also enables us to practice empathy at a greater degree and can aid in dealing with difficult customers.

Staying Present In The Moment

When we are overwhelmed and stressed out, our mind often jumps from one task to another. We’re not present in the moment. This can have a negative impact on our work performance.

By practicing meditation, you encourage focused behavior. This results in higher efficiency and effectiveness.

It Helps You To Become A Better Leader

Our energy is not simply our own. We share it with others when we speak with them or even walk into a room. Good energy never fails to impress. When team leaders are in control of their thoughts and emotions, they can guide their teams better and help gear them toward the goals and vision of the business.

Meditation helps us center ourselves to be able to handle our thoughts and emotions and become better leaders and managers.
